More than 8,000 Volkswagen vehicles in Canada are being recalled due to a potential safety risk, according to Transport Canada. The recall, which was initially posted on March 25th and updated on April 2nd, is due to a software problem that may cause the instrument cluster to fail upon starting the vehicle. This could prevent drivers from seeing critical information such as the speedometer, gear selection, warning lights, and other malfunction indicators.
The recall impacts the 2025 models of the Volkswagen Jetta and Taos. Transport Canada warns that the absence of these crucial displays could elevate the risk of collisions. Volkswagen will contact affected owners by mail, instructing them to bring their vehicles to a dealership for a software update. In some cases, the instrument cluster may need to be replaced entirely.
This recall comes shortly after Volkswagen recalled over 13,000 Jettas from the 2025 and 2026 model years in March due to a fire risk. That recall was initiated because the transmission ground wire may not have been properly connected during production, potentially causing overheating and increasing the risk of fire. These recalls highlight the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and prompt attention to safety notices to ensure the safety of Canadian drivers and passengers.
Volkswagen owners can visit Transport Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database for more information on both recalls.
