A 21-year-old motorcyclist is dead following a collision in Toronto's east end on Sunday afternoon. The Toronto Police Service responded to the scene at Danforth Avenue and Byng Avenue in Scarborough around 3:05 p. m..

According to investigators, a vehicle, identified as a Toyota Highlander, was travelling eastbound on Danforth Avenue and attempted to make a left turn into a plaza when it was struck by the westbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital. The driver of the Toyota Highlander remained at the scene and is cooperating with the police.

Initial reports suggested the motorcycle had struck a parked car, but further investigation revealed the collision involved the left-turning vehicle. Danforth Avenue was temporarily closed between Byng Avenue and Robinson Avenue during the investigation, but has since reopened. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) detoured its 113 Danforth and 20 Cliffside buses via Pharmacy Avenue, Denton Avenue, and Leyton Avenue, but regular service has resumed.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have seen this collision or has video to please speak with investigators," said Insp. Errol Watson of the Toronto Police Service. Watson added that it was too early to determine if speed or weather conditions were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
