St. John's Shuts Down as Snowfall Surpasses Snowmageddon Levels

Share:

St. John's is facing a significant weather event, with snowfall totals exceeding those of the infamous "Snowmageddon" of 2020. The city is grappling with the aftermath of days of relentless snowfall, leading to widespread closures and disruptions on February 23, 2026.

All City of St. John's facilities, including City Hall and recreation centers, are closed for the day. City employees are working remotely where possible. Curbside waste collection is also canceled for the day. Metrobus services were suspended in the morning, with a later update planned. Provincial government offices in the metro region are also closed.

Residents are strongly advised to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, allowing snow clearing equipment to operate safely and efficiently. A weather-related parking ban remains in effect. While the city is not currently declaring a state of emergency, officials are closely monitoring the situation and may implement further measures if needed. The City appreciates residents' cooperation and patience as crews work to restore normal operations.
