Health Canada has issued a recall for a specific lot of Mar-Valsartan 160mg tablets after discovering a mix-up in the packaging. According to the agency, some bottles labeled as Mar-Valsartan 160mg may contain Amlodipine/Valsartan 5mg/160mg tablets instead. This could pose a health risk to patients who are not receiving the correct medication for their condition.
The recall affects lot number MF9037, with an expiration date of January 2027. Marcan Pharmaceuticals Inc. is conducting the recall. Health Canada is advising patients to check their medication bottles and, if they have the affected lot, to consult their pharmacist or physician immediately.
Taking the wrong medication could lead to serious health consequences. Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, while Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker also used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain. Patients who unknowingly take Amlodipine/Valsartan instead of Valsartan may experience adverse effects or a lack of blood pressure control.
Health Canada is monitoring the recall and will provide updates as necessary. Canadians are encouraged to report any adverse reactions related to this medication or any other health product to Health Canada. This recall highlights the importance of verifying medications and adhering to prescribed treatments to ensure patient safety.
