Alberta Braces for Powerful Storm with High Winds

Share:

A powerful spring storm is set to impact east-central and southeastern Alberta, bringing with it the potential for strong winds and significant precipitation. Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Tuesday, advising residents to take precautions ahead of the storm, which is expected to arrive on Thursday.

The weather agency forecasts wind gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, which could cause damage to roofs, fences, and other structures. Residents are encouraged to secure loose objects and be prepared for possible disruptions to transportation, services, and utilities. High-sided vehicles are particularly at risk of being overturned by the strong winds.

In addition to the wind, the storm is expected to bring a mix of rain and snow to the region. Northern Alberta could see snowfall totals exceeding 20 cm, while other areas may receive 20 to 40 mm of rain and snow combined. The heaviest precipitation is anticipated to begin on Thursday morning and continue through Friday.

Environment Canada advises Albertans to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and warnings through their weather information portal. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property from the potential impacts of the storm.
