Toronto police are investigating a shooting at the U. S. Consulate that occurred early Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026. The incident, which took place around 4:30 a. m. near University Avenue and Queen Street West, is being treated as a "national security incident".

According to reports, two individuals in a white Honda CRV discharged a handgun at the front of the consulate before fleeing the scene. While there were people inside the building at the time, no injuries were reported, thanks to the building's reinforced security measures. Police were alerted to the shooting around 5:30 a. m. after an officer was flagged down in the area. Authorities have released an image of the suspect vehicle and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are working with the Toronto Police Service and the FBI on the investigation. Security has been enhanced at both U. S. and Israeli diplomatic buildings in Toronto and Ottawa as a precaution. This shooting follows recent gunfire incidents at several Toronto-area synagogues, raising concerns about potential links and prompting increased vigilance.

"The shooting that took place at the U. S. consulate early this morning is an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbours," said Ontario Premier Doug Ford. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow added, "This cannot stand," emphasizing the right of the Jewish community to practice their faith without fear. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities exploring all possible motives, including potential links to terrorism.
