The Ottawa Senators continue to retool their roster with the acquisition of forward Andre Burakovsky from the Chicago Blackhawks. The deal, which sent a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to Chicago, adds a player with significant pedigree to the Senators' forward group. Burakovsky, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Canadian capital.

Burakovsky, 31, spent the last season with the Blackhawks, recording 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) in 75 games. Prior to his time in Chicago, he was a key member of the Colorado Avalanche when they captured the Stanley Cup in 2022, and he also won the Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018. His career totals include 164 goals and 256 assists in 771 regular-season games.

Senators' General Manager Steve Staios expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, "Andre adds skill and playmaking ability to our forward group. We are happy to add the pedigree of a two-time Stanley Cup champion." Burakovsky is entering the final year of his contract, carrying a cap hit of $5.5 million.

The trade for Burakovsky is part of a busy period for the Senators. Earlier this week, the team also traded captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers and acquired forward William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks. Additionally, Ottawa acquired goaltender Samuel Ersson from the Toronto Maple Leafs and re-signed defenseman Jordan Spence to a contract extension. These moves indicate a clear strategy by the Senators to reshape their team and compete effectively in the upcoming season.
