Several regions in southern Quebec are under a freezing rain warning issued by Environment Canada on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. The affected areas include Montreal, Montérégie, and Centre-du-Québec. Up to 10 millimetres of freezing rain is possible, potentially creating icy and hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks.
The weather agency forecasts two waves of freezing rain: one in the morning and another overnight. Temperatures are expected to hover around the freezing mark, which may limit the overall impact but still poses a risk of icy surfaces. Northeast winds could gust up to 50 kilometres an hour.
Residents are urged to exercise caution while travelling. The City of Montreal and surrounding municipalities are preparing salting and snow removal operations to mitigate the effects of the icy conditions. Motorists are advised to adjust their driving habits and allow for extra travel time.
The forecast predicts the freezing rain will taper off near noon, with a high of 3°C expected during the day. While unsettled weather is expected to continue into Wednesday, temperatures are predicted to rise, bringing a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 7°C.
