The Florida Panthers came out strong after the Olympic break, securing a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night. Brad Marchand, fresh off winning a silver medal with Team Canada, scored twice, leading the Panthers' offensive charge. Evan Rodrigues contributed a shorthanded goal and an assist, while Carter Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk, a recent gold medalist, also found the back of the net.

The Panthers set the tone early, scoring three goals in the first period. Marchand opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, followed by a power-play goal from Verhaeghe and a shorthanded goal from Rodrigues. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was solid in net, stopping 28 shots to limit the Maple Leafs to a single goal scored by John Tavares. Joseph Woll of the Maple Leafs faced 36 shots in the losing effort.

With the win, the Panthers are attempting to push themselves back into playoff contention after a slump before the break. They are currently sitting outside of a playoff spot but are hoping to gain ground in the final stretch of the season. "I thought we started well, which we really wanted to do," said Marchand. The Panthers will play the Buffalo Sabres at home. The Maple Leafs, also looking to secure a playoff berth, will host the Ottawa Senators.

The Panthers now face 15 of their remaining 23 games on the road.
