Connor McDavid had a standout performance on Saturday, scoring a goal and adding two assists as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-2. This victory brings the Oilers within three points of the Ducks for the lead in the Pacific Division. McDavid's three-point night also allowed him to reclaim the NHL scoring lead.
The Oilers have been striving for consistency, and this win marks their third in a row. Edmonton had struggled to string together wins, going 1-9-2 in their previous 12 attempts to win more than two straight games. Zach Hyman contributed a goal and an assist, while Jack Roslovic and Matt Savoie also scored for the Oilers. Connor Ingram made 29 saves in net for Edmonton.
Anaheim's Beckett Sennecke and Cutter Gauthier scored for the Ducks, but it wasn't enough to extend their winning streak, which was halted at four games. Lukas Dostal stopped 30 shots for Anaheim. The Oilers were still without Leon Draisaitl, who is out for the remainder of the regular season due to a lower body injury.
Evan Bouchard contributed two assists for the Oilers, stretching his point streak against the Ducks to 11 games. Bouchard, a 26-year-old defenceman, is close to becoming only the 13th blueliner in NHL history to reach the 90-point mark, currently holding 86 points. The Oilers will look to continue their winning streak as they host the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Ducks will face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
