Lactalis Canada, a major player in the Canadian dairy landscape, has announced a definitive agreement to purchase the fine cheese division of Agropur Cooperative. This significant acquisition includes well-known Quebec-made brands such as OKA, Monsieur Gustav, and L'Extra, along with two production facilities and the division's import activities. The deal, announced today, is subject to customary closing conditions and approval from Canada's Competition Bureau.

The acquisition is expected to bolster Lactalis Canada's already extensive portfolio, which features brands like Cracker Barrel, Black Diamond, and Président. Emmanuel Besnier, Chairman of Lactalis Group, stated that this move represents a substantial opportunity to build upon Quebec's esteemed brands and cheesemaking expertise, further solidifying the company's presence in the Canadian market. Mark Taylor, President & CEO of Lactalis Canada, highlighted the company's ambition to lead through investment and capability building within the Canadian dairy sector.

This strategic expansion will add approximately 400 employees to Lactalis Canada's existing workforce of 4,500 across the country, with the two new production facilities located in Oka and Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. Agropur, a cooperative owned by dairy farmers, indicated that this divestment allows them to focus capital on high-demand dairy proteins and industrial ingredients, a strategic pivot that aligns with their long-term vision. While financial terms were not disclosed, this move marks another milestone in Lactalis Canada's ongoing growth journey in the Canadian market.
