Kevin Fiala's Olympic tournament has come to an end after a collision with Canada's Tom Wilson during Switzerland's 5-1 loss. The incident occurred late in the third period of Friday's game, with Fiala being stretchered off the ice at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Swiss Ice Hockey announced that Fiala will miss the remainder of the Olympics due to a lower leg injury.

The injury occurred with just under three minutes remaining in the game when Fiala and Wilson tangled legs along the boards in the Canadian zone. Wilson ended up falling on Fiala's left leg. Fiala, unable to move his lower body, was attended to by medical personnel and taken to the hospital. According to Swiss head coach Patrick Fischer, Fiala was immediately transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Following the game, several players commented on the incident. Wilson described the play as "unlucky" and said he felt terrible that Fiala may not be able to continue playing. Nico Hischier, another Swiss forward, said that he didn't see any intention to injure Fiala on the play. Drew Doughty, a Canadian defenseman and teammate of Fiala on the Los Angeles Kings, expressed his concern. "Hopefully he's going to be fine quick," Doughty said. "We need that guy on my team back home, big time".

The loss of Fiala is a significant blow to the Swiss team, as he is one of their key players. Fiala had an assist in Switzerland's opening game against France. Switzerland will face Czechia in their next game.
