Kapanen In, Veleno Out as Canadiens Face Sabres

Share:

In a pivotal Game 7 showdown against the Buffalo Sabres, the Montreal Canadiens have opted to make a strategic roster adjustment, inserting Oliver Kapanen into the lineup in place of Joe Veleno. The decision, announced just before the game, aims to inject fresh energy into the Canadiens' bottom six forwards as they battle for a chance to advance in the playoffs.

Kapanen, a 22-year-old native of Timra, Sweden, had a solid regular season, appearing in all 82 games for Montreal and tallying 22 goals and 37 points. While his playoff performance has been limited to four games without a point, Coach St-Louis is betting on Kapanen's speed and offensive capabilities to provide a spark. He will slot into centre on the third line.

Veleno, 26, has played in six playoff games this year, recording one assist. During the regular season, he had two goals and five points in 61 games. According to TVA Sports' Anthony Martineau, sidelining Veleno is a move that should have been made two games ago.

The Canadiens are looking to rebound from a crushing 8-3 defeat in Game 6 against the Sabres. Facing elimination, the team hopes that Kapanen's insertion will provide the necessary boost to overcome Buffalo, especially with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in net for the Sabres. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm ET on Sportsnet.
