The province has declared a state of emergency due to the rapid spread of wildfires, including the Bald Range wildfire, which has consumed over 10,300 hectares. Approximately 18,000 people have been evacuated, with thousands more on alert and prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Eleanor Olszewski, Canada's Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, confirmed the approval of federal assistance, stating that efforts are underway to ensure support reaches those most in need. International firefighters from Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico are also on the ground assisting Canadian crews in combating the fires, which are being exacerbated by hot and dry weather conditions. The federal government has pledged to support British Columbia for "as long as it takes" to manage the wildfire crisis. Some evacuees have reported lengthy waits for assistance at reception centres, with many sleeping in their vehicles while awaiting aid.
