The Washington Capitals defeated the Calgary Flames by a score of 7-3 on Monday night, putting an end to their three-game losing streak. Connor McMichael had a standout performance, scoring two goals for the Capitals.
The Capitals took control of the game early, surging to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Hendrix Lapierre, playing as the fourth-line center due to David Kampf's immigration delays, opened the scoring. Tom Wilson extended the lead, followed by McMichael's first goal of the night. The Flames mounted a comeback in the second period, tying the game with three goals, including two shorthanded goals scored within a 1:16 span. Blake Coleman scored on a breakaway, and Joel Farabee set up Yegor Sharangovich for the tying goal.
However, the Capitals regained control in the third period. McMichael scored again to restore the lead, and Justin Sourdif added another goal shortly after. Ethen Frank scored an empty-netter late in the game, and Ryan Leonard capped off the victory with a final goal, extending his point streak to three games. Goalie Logan Thompson stopped 22 of 25 shots, securing the win for Washington. The Capitals had previously defeated the Flames earlier in the season, winning that contest 3-1.
With the win, the Capitals improved their overall record to 31-26-7. The Flames, on the other hand, have struggled recently, losing five of their last six games and have a record of 25-30-7.
