Canada's athletes continued to shine at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, bringing the country's medal count to an impressive 20 on the penultimate day of the Games. Medals in curling and speed skating events highlighted a successful day for Team Canada.
Team Brad Jacobs captured gold in men's curling, defeating Great Britain 9-6 in a tense final. This victory marks Jacobs' second Olympic gold, making him the first men's skip to achieve this milestone. Team Rachel Homan added to the curling success, securing a bronze medal. Jacobs stated he was proud of his team for overcoming a challenging opponent, emphasizing the team's unity as a key factor in their victory.
In speed skating, Ivanie Blondin from Ottawa secured a silver medal in the women's mass start event. Blondin, a silver medalist in the same event at the 2022 Winter Olympics, added another medal to her collection. Earlier in the Games, Blondin, alongside Valérie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann, won gold in the women's team pursuit.
As the Games draw to a close, Canada sits in 11th place overall. With a total of 5 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals, Canada has once again demonstrated its strength in winter sports. The closing ceremony will be held on February 22, with Valérie Maltais and Steven Dubois chosen as Canada's flag bearers.
