The initiative, spearheaded by Jacqueline Slocombe and her daughter Katharine Casey, aims to foster national unity and celebrate Canadian identity. The movement encourages participation from every province and territory, emphasizing that the song "crosses partisan lines" and appeals to a shared love for the country.
The idea, which originated on Vancouver Island last year, has gained momentum through online promotion and word-of-mouth. Organizers Vivian Davidson-Castro, who immigrated to Canada from Mexico City, highlighted the importance of unity, stating, "We should be united by our common love of calling this country our home, especially at a time when geopolitically things are so chaotic." Participants are encouraged to upload videos of themselves singing using the hashtag #Alltogethercanada.
The "All Together, Canada" initiative proposes singing the anthem at 10 a. m. PST, which corresponds to 1 p. m. EST. This synchronized act of national pride is intended to demonstrate a united front and a collective appreciation for Canada, regardless of individual backgrounds or political affiliations. The organizers hope for an even larger turnout this year compared to their inaugural event.
