Canada has cancelled at least 239 travel visas due to concerns about the visa holders' connections to Iranian leadership. The cancellations were carried out by Canadian border and immigration officials. This action underscores Canada's commitment to maintaining the integrity of its immigration system and addressing potential security risks.
In 2022, Canada declared senior Iranian government and security officials inadmissible to the country due to their involvement in terrorism and human rights violations. This declaration provided the legal basis for denying entry to individuals associated with the regime and taking enforcement action against those already in Canada.
These measures are part of a broader effort to scrutinize applications and identify individuals with links to the Iranian regime who may pose a threat to Canadian security or public safety. As of June 2025, approximately 17,800 applications had been reviewed for potential inadmissibility based on possible ties to Iran.
While some investigations have been concluded with individuals being deemed admissible or not present in Canada, others remain ongoing. The Canada Border Services Agency continues to pursue enforcement actions and admissibility hearings for those suspected of being senior members of the Iranian regime.
