Canada-Bosnia World Cup Tickets Soar on Resale Market

As Canada prepares to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, excitement is building, but some fans are facing sticker shock when trying to secure tickets. Following Bosnia and Herzegovina's upset victory over Italy to qualify for the tournament, resale tickets for their June 12th match against Canada in Toronto have skyrocketed.

With the official FIFA resale marketplace closed until Thursday, fans eager to witness Canada's first World Cup match on home soil are turning to platforms like StubHub. As of Tuesday evening, the cheapest available ticket was listed at $1,961, while some premium seats were being offered for as high as $130,766 at BMO Field, which will be known as Toronto Stadium for the World Cup. There were approximately 388 tickets remaining as of Tuesday evening.

The Canada-Bosnia match is the first of six to be held in Toronto, with other group games scheduled for Vancouver. Canada is in Group B alongside Switzerland and Qatar. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups, along with the eight best third-place teams, will advance to the knockout stage.

The high resale prices have prompted discussion about ticket scalping and accessibility for average fans. The Ontario government proposed amendments last month to the 2017 Ticket Sales Act, which would make it illegal to resell live event tickets for more than their original cost. It remains to be seen whether these changes will take effect before the World Cup, potentially impacting the resale market and offering some relief to Canadian soccer fans. Meanwhile, FIFA opened a "Last-Minute Sales Phase" on Wednesday.
