Calgary police announced Wednesday the tragic discovery of a body believed to be 11-year-old Parker Wells, who had been missing for two weeks. The devastating news brings an end to an intensive search that captured the attention of the city and the nation.
Police Chief Katie McLellan stated that the body was found in the northeast quadrant of Calgary, near Deerfoot Trail. The discovery followed a tip from a member of the public, which directed search teams to a specific area. It is believed that Parker may have entered a culvert and travelled through an underground pipe system. Specialized crews from the Calgary Fire Department located the child's body within a pipe.
Parker was last seen on July 16, and a massive search effort involving hundreds of officers, volunteers, and community members was mobilized.
